Jesy Nelson for Cosmopolitan UK | June 2021

Jesy Nelson isn't scoring much points for dropping her very first solo cover story on the same day Leigh-Anne Pinnock announces her pregnancy.

Some see it as a deliberate attempt to steal Leigh-Anne's shine and felt her interview with the June issue of Cosmopolitan UK could have been released on another day.

In her first interview since leaving Little Mix, Jesy chats candidly to Felicity Hayward about the moment she knew she had to leave the band, her mental health, and getting back in the studio.

She reflected on feeling 'sad' during her 10-year stint with Leigh-Anne, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards, but now feels 'free.' She admits that shooting the music video for 'Sweet Melody' marked her 'breaking point' and confirms her plans to go solo.

It seems so much weight has been lifted off her shoulders, but calling the women she spent almost 10 years in a band with as “the other three girls” just comes across as cold and tone deaf. It seems there may be some misplaced anger. She might be blaming them for her insecurities and body issues. It sucks that she was constantly body shamed and trolled, but someone shouldn't be at fault for being slim or coming across more confident. Having said that, here's to wishing Jesy the best of luck in her future endeavours.

Hard to believe this is a white woman...

I doubt she had any control over when it would be released, or any knowledge of Leanne's pregnancy reveal dropping on the same day.

I don’t see it for Little Mix collectively, so solo...heck no. Also, I don’t think it was deliberate for her solo cover being released. I want her to get therapy and just take a break. Keep the music!

What is her background?
Do you think she has what it takes to make it solo? Or another Normani situation going to happen.

Ps: I feel she needs a new look. That hair...
