Jesy Nelson & Nicki Minaj premiere the Diddy featured music video for ❝Boyz.❞

Boyz❞ by Jesy Nelson takes inspiration from Diddy’s 'Bad Boy for Life,' and has a heavy 90/00's aesthetic.
The video serves as a cosplay on black swag culture and its hood rich elements...

Jesy Nelson and Nicki Minaj serve looks in the 'Bad Boy for Life' inspired visuals for her debut solo single 'Boyz.' Diddy makes a special guest appearance in the high budget music video as the song samples his hit, 'Bad Boy for Life.' It is her first serving of solo life since leaving her girl band Little Mix almost a year ago. They reaaaally went all OUT for this. And for a song that doesn't live up to the hype, they certainly pressed the button on Jesy!

It wasn't worth the wait indeed, but I appreciate the ode to Diddy's video the song samples. But this beat just isn't meshing with her vocal delivery for me.

I agree. There is no bass in her voice so the beat kind of just drags her along. But at least she's on course to get a hit so mission accomplished it seems.

The video was cute however LM use to carry her tone cause it def needs support but we will continue to see how it goes! Her vocals don’t mesh that well but she does have that unique tone to sing urban songs once produced and catered to her voice

Whilst I do like the song, I agree that something seems missing. It’s a little strange as whilst I think her vocals sound good, she is definitely holding back from using her full tone/power which leads to an emptier sound. She has a great lower register she could have layered with the original vocal too. I feel when the backing track is muffled into the background in the first verse, it leaves something missing. Probably being overly critical. You’re right that it doesn’t live up to the hype but I don’t think it could as everyone has been anticipating it so highly. Id still give it a 7 and have a feeling the more I listen, the more I’ll like it. Hope it gives her a hot!

Honestly, this song is terrible and I can barely understand what she is saying. Also, I am over the blackfishing

I like her tone and the song is cute. I want them to stack her vocals more because her voice needs to be fuller. The video is good!

Neither song or video do anything for me, but I already knew that would be the case because the original for both song and vid did nothing for me, either. She should've chosen a stronger Bad Boy track to sample, like B McKnight's "You Should Be Mine", 112's "Only You", or Black Rob's "Whoa". Note to Jesy (and Ariana whilst we're on the 90s/00s sampling-subject): See Teyana's "HYWI", Zendaya's "Something New", PYT's "Same Ol' Same Ol'" and Sevyn's "Guilty" to hear how throwbacks are done on point. But as Diddy said, good luck to her in her career.

@Remmi, PYT's "Same Ol' Same Ol" was my ish back in the day along with "You Don't Know".
