Chilli says she doesn’t like that TLC are categorized as an R&B group...

TLC is currently on their 'Celebration of CrazySexyCool' tour with Bone Thugs N' Harmony as the album's 27th anniversary approaches. Chilli and T-Boz are honouring the record with an 18-city tour, and Chilli reflects on the group's iconic success. She says people should not refer to TLC as an R&B group just because they were three black women.

"We always correct people when they say we're R&B – no we're not," she says, "'Unpretty' is not an R&B record, it's pop. 'No Scrubs' is not an R&B record, it's pop. We have had issues and conversations about being put in one box because we are black." This is debatable. Their music is *majority* R&B with a few pop songs thrown in, so people are not wrong for seeing them as R&B. It's not like they can call themselves The Spice Girls!

Gosh, at one point in time they were the hottest, flyest, and influential group in the world. I really wonder what would have been if Left Eye did not pass, and they all had a proper chance to have a solo endeavour.

Is this why the magic was lost, Lisa's death?

Probably.

I stopped caring for them after Lefteye passed. And I don’t know what they think that last album of theirs was! I get what Chilli is saying though - their debut was a mix of hip hop and RnB, CrazySexyCool was RnB, Fanmail was more Pop, so they’re a fusion of all genres I guess. It’s not that big a deal tbh, they speak like they’re still the biggest selling girl group of all time.

Their music quality-wise just wasn't that good after she passed. Fanmail and CrazySexyCool are the only albums I acknowledge.

Ah I love their debut and 3D too. It’s really just the last album with just the two of them that I hated.
