My thoughts on this Nicki Minaj vaccine controversy...

Nicki Minaj has come under some serious backlash in the media after confirming her absence from the VMAs was due to a positive Covid diagnosis. Minaj was also absent from last night's Met Gala. When fans enquired why, she revealed that since the Met Gala (and other multiple events) are requiring attendees to be vaccinated, she will continue to be a no show (at least until next year).

As a result of this, she has no desire to take the vaccine until she can do ‘more research.’ A lot of media personalities have accused her of being anti-vax, and have called her irresponsible since she has millions of fans and followers who could very well follow her stance. Her revelation has received so much worldwide attention it attracted commentary from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as flame baiter Piers Morgan.

Sometime today, Johnson spoke about her during a coronavirus briefing, and feigned ignorance at knowing who she was. So now she's on Twitter beefing with them both, lol. Come to think of it, not many of us could ever have imagined hearing Boris Johnson say the name ‘Nicki Minaj’ before and now that he has, it really is extra-terrestrial levels of weird. Jokes aside, someone who is in no rush to have the vaccine should not be accused of being anti-vax.

The truth is, she is being gaslighted and bullied by the media and I don't think that's fair. I have not always been a fan of her actions and decisions, but I fully support her on this 100%. None of her tweets have vilified the vaccine and she's even stated she plans to take it at some point as she wants to go back on tour. [UPDATE: Huh? What? What is that she said about about the vaccine causing swollen testicles?!] What is so wrong about delaying a vaccine which is still in clinical trials until 2023? What is so wrong about delaying a vaccine that has so far caused AT LEAST 1600 deaths in the UK along with over one million adverse reactions? 640 FULLY VACCINATED people in the UK still died of Covid, and I know that's miniscule compared to the 44 million vaccinated but that's not really the point. 640 people put their trust in the vaccine and ended up losing their lives. Their lives mattered too! It's very upsetting that others are so quick to dismiss just because the number is small.

The moral of the story is...
...we don't know everyone's medical history and everyone should be able to do what's best for themselves without having judgement cast upon them.

I think the issue is more with her possibly spreading misinformation regarding why she hasn't had it yet. She's entitled to her beliefs on the matter but we have to be careful about what we say and where we say it, especially if there's no evidence showing causation between two events.

The issue is also the story about her cousin’s friend who she said became impotent and had swollen testicles because of the vaccine. The Health Minister had to spend time seeking some evidence on the matter because folks were eating up the hearsay. It’s irresponsible to do that. Those side effects her now fiancée-less cousin’s friend allegedly had are the signs of an STD and not the vaccine.

@Cloudi - yes, that's what I was referring to.
