Lizzo hits back at claim she's “popular because of an obesity epidemic.”

Fighting words.
People see someone like Lizzo giving these high energy performances, and it's a whole different kettle of fish.

You wouldn't think such an energizer could look like Lizzo. And that's probably where all the intrigue comes from.


Political analyst Dr. Boyce Watkins says that Lizzo's popularity is due to “an obesity epidemic in America.” He adds:
“Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are. Unfortunately, many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease.”

An infuriated Lizzo then told him:
Dr. Boyce Watkins was wrong to downplay her talent like that. Watkins basically accused her of using her fuller figure as a gimmick to sell records. Lizzo is talented, and pretty... and obese. I'm sorry to be the bad guy here, but it has to be said. She's unhealthy and could definitely benefit from losing 20lbs. I just don't think she should be blamed for the rising number in diabetes and heart disease due to being popular. Everybody makes their own choices in life.
