Twenty years of Britney Spears’ third studio album, ❝Britney.❞

Twenty years ago today, on November 5th, 2001, Britney Spears
released her third studio album, ❝Britney.❞
The LP debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart
with first week sales of 745,750 copies.
This also earned her the second highest debut sales for an album in 2001, behind *NSYNC's Celebrity.❞  It has since been certified 4x Platinum spawning the iconic hit ❝I’m A Slave 4 U❞ and earning two Grammy Award nominations. The project to date has accumulated sales of 10.2 million worldwide. Back in September, I wrote a ❝Slave 4 U❞  20-year anniversary post which you can check out here. Although this album still had a lot of radio friendly bops it was also the album that helped Britney to veer away from the bubblegum poppiness of her music and experiment with more mature sounds. She may have even alienated her fanbase because the album before this one (Oops❞) sold  DOUBLE the first week figures in comparison. Weeks ahead of her 20th birthday, Britney wanted to introduce a newer, sexier and revamped version of herself since she was leaving her teens. She certainly didn't fail.
