Lady Gaga becomes RIAA's first female digital diamond recipient...

This week, the RIAA presented Lady Gaga with a prestigious Diamond Award in recognition of 'Bad Romance' surpassing the 10 million threshold counting song sales and streams. She becomes the first female artist in Gold & Platinum Program history to earn a Digital Diamond Award. My two pence inside.

When it was first announced that streaming was made part of the awarding process, I argued against it. I'm very aware that we are now living in the digital age. However, actual sales certifications always has been a pivotal part of showcasing an artist's true selling power. Now this means nothing because this has been clouded by streaming.

I will always consider this a bad idea that should never have been brought to fruition in the first place. It also makes it much easier to "break records" as opposed to those who never had the advantages of streaming to bulk up certifications.

That said, 'Bad Romance' was an extraordinary body of work. It is one of her stronger songs to date and the cinematic video, which was stunning, took it to a whole new level. It's easy to see why it is one of her most streamed visuals.

Congrats to Gaga on this accomplishment though.
