Ashanti announces she is re-recording her debut album after owning her masters...

Next year will mark 20 years since Ashanti dropped her self-titled debut album 'Ashanti.' The LP was most definitely the biggest release from an R&B female at that time. During an appearance on the 'Tamron Hall' show, she revealed she will be re-recording the project since she now owns the masters to the 2002 release.

She applauds her legal team for their amazingness, and counts her blessings. Other artists that have re-recorded their projects in more recent times include Taylor Swift and JoJo after they encountered label issues that stopped them from owning the originals. It beggars the question as to whether artists are only doing this as a way to own their new masters or whether Ashanti is just doing this out of sheer boredom.

Why does she need to re-record what's already hers? Am I missing something. I don't think it needs re-recording, it's perfect as it is.

So the label won’t get a cut and she gets 100 percent and when it comes to movies etc if they want to use the songs it won’t get denied by the label they would go through ashanti
