Irv Gotti FUMES at Ashanti: ❝She’s trying to f*ck me out my masters.❞

Ashanti's former Murder Inc boss Irv Gotti has blasted the singer for re-recording
her debut album because he claims it’s a deliberate move to take money from him.
Not only that, he feels it also minimises the value of his masters. Ashanti previously announced she would be re-recording her self-titled 2002 debut in honor of its 20th anniversary next year. She is legally allowed to re-record the album. ❝She is basically trying to f**k me out of my Masters. And make people decide which album to listen to or stream,❞ he says while responding to a post by Angie Martinez who recently interviewed the singer.

Look at that. Poor little tink tink worried about losing some royalties when those albums were mostly successful because of people HEARING Ashanti on the record, not him! Besides, he is still a writer/producer of the music and will therefore STILL get a cut from the re-recordings. Meanwhile, Ashanti can't be blamed for thinking business standpoint and wanting to line her pockets with the licensing deals. However, she should have done this 15 years ago while she was still popping.

No offense but she does not have Taylor Swift's fanbase (to support this on a mass scale.) Not many people are checking for Ashanti musically in 2022. Anyway, here's a brand new interview below where Ashanti talks to Angie Martinez about the re-recording process, which may even include some new features.

Irv is just being greedy as f***. Ashanti currently gets nothing from the masters side but gets royalties from the publishing. Irv gets from both sides. By re-recording the albums she will own the masters and get from both sides whilst Irv would then only get royalties from the publishing side for his part in writing/producing. Hes been living off her royalties for near 20 years. Its time she earned a greater share for her work. Although 20yrs later aint many people gonna be consuming these records going forward to be earning her the chunk of chunk Irv has enjoyed.

EXACTLY.

I don't see the point. Unless she can pull the original, it makes no sense to me.

To be fair, I don't think the album would have been what it was and Ashanti wouldn't be the Ashanti we know and love without Irv behind her. I agree that she had a cure voice that was fresh at the time and that attracted fans, but Irv's production on Ashanti's debut and sophomore album was seemless and unheard of at the time too, and I think it's unfair to him to diminish that all in favor of Ashanti's vocals. That album was pretty much what introduced him to the world, too - I think he has a right to feel some kind of way about it, even just from an emotional aspect. Irv doesn't need the money, just the catalogs of Ja Rule and Murder Inc alone will keep his pockets lined until the day he dies.

I was watching a documentary that Frankmusic shared on his FB this week about the dark side of Sporify and streaming, it detailed how streaming royalties are divided and shared out, the artist literally gets pennies per few thousand streams - for that, is it even worth it?

Same applies to physical copies. They only get maybe £2 or less for every £10 CD sold. But it's always been like that. Artists are expected to make their money through concerts, festivals, clubs and other appearances.

Touring, etc...

Yep, and Spotify streaming is even worse (the average artist that uses the platform makes $11 a month) That's why Frankmuzic is only making his new album Carrisimi available on CD, for £25, which fans took exception to.

Good for him, lol.

Still is a good move for her cause if campaigns/endorsements or DJ wanna sample the songs they will have to go through her instead of him. He’s been dogging her yet been living a lavish life of her shit

Remmi, Irvs contribution is related to the writing and production and thats exactly whats compensated via publishing which he'll still get and at the same level as before. If people still stream the original versions of the tracks he'll still get money on the masters he owns, however Ashanti has every right to take ownership of her craft and if she is in a position now after years of hard work to fund the creation of new recordings then good for her. Irvs just being bitter. He should congratulate her getting to that level. His contribution will remain compensated even on these new recordings.

@Scoopz - You're right and I agree, and on reflection it does seem he is being a bit salty about it and that he's more concerned in regards to how the re-recording will affect his pockets. Maybe he's angry about the way Ashanti went about it? He appeared to be indicating a few weeks ago that there was a lack of communication about it from her to him.

@Toya - yeah. And he was able to justify the high cost (type of ink used for the artwork, luxury casing etc).
