Producer Bangladesh accuses Kelis of cutting him out of his royalties for "Bossy."

Grammy-nominated producer Bangladesh has revealed how he got Kelis to sign off on his royalties for producing the beat for her 2006 hit single "Bossy," 17 years after it was released. During his visit with Bag Fuel, he went on to say that Kelis was very "difficult" to work with and that he didn't know if it was something personal she had against him. Peep the tea below.
"How the record was created, I did the whole beat, so that's already 50 percent, so then Sean Garrett wrote the hook. Jasper and another dude wrote the verses, but she kind of like quarterbacked it," Bangladesh said. "I think the label got Too $hort on it, so the numbers was adding up more than 100 because she was taking a lot of it, and she ain't do nothing." He added, "What you was asking for doesn't justify the work you did. It was like you got four people on the writer's side, and you trying to take 25 percent of the 50, and it's like this n*gga wrote the hook, this n*gga wrote the verse, you asking for too much, and there wasn't enough left for Too $hort."
It's horrible when you put all of your blood, sweat and tears into your art only to not get properly compensated for it. Songwriters and producers are always the biggest victims and as we've come to find out, the recording industry is so predatory and criminally corrupt. But what I find interesting is that last year Kelis came for BeyoncĂ© for sampling her hit song "Milkshake" without her permission. Then she went on a rant via Instagram about artists getting their publishing stolen! So to hear a producer accuse her of theft and cutting him out of his royalties for SEVENTEEN years is absolutely mind boggling!

What makes the whole Milkshake situation funnier, is that it was originally meant for Britney Spears! So, Kelis was doing the most for a song wasn't even meant for her!

Whether she knew it was the terms of the deal she signed or not, whether she got dud advice or not, Kelis' record deal with Pharell granted her the right to sing but not write (with publishing) any songs the label asked her to. Therefore she doesn't own milkshake legally, whatever she claims. Therefore Beyonce owes her nothing for sampling a small portion of Milkshake (not even the vocals). Kelis has always suffered from self importance complex.
